The Surgical Technologist serves primarily as a member of the surgical team. They work with surgeons, anesthetists, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and providing a safe environment. The surgical technologist assumes appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery.

Medical coding is a health profession that transforms written descriptions of diseases, injuries, and procedures into numeric or alphanumeric designations. Medical codes are used for reimbursement of healthcare services as well as statistics and research to improve the health of American citizens. The Medical Coding Program promotes a learning environment to develop the technical competency skills and critical thinking skills using a variety of instructional methods such as web-enhanced online course work, lecture recordings, online meetings, videos, and simulated laboratory activities.

The ophthalmic assistant is a technical worker who assists an ophthalmologist in providing direct patient care as well as in medical office organization/administration. The mission of the Delgado Community College Ophthalmic Medical Assisting Program is to provide students with both academic and clinical instruction, which will prepare them to function as competent, compassionate, entry-level ophthalmic assistants, who respond professionally and ethically to patients and other members of the healthcare community.

An Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic is qualified to administer advanced emergency medical care in the pre-hospital setting. Students who complete the EMT basic course and pass their National Exam can be employed as EMTs. Students wishing to apply for the advanced EMT programs must be Licensed EMTs.

🫁 Respiratory Care Technology
Respiratory Care Technology
Respiratory Care Technology (RSPT) is an allied health specialty practiced under the direction of a licensed physician and involves the assessment, testing, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of persons with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.
The RSPT Program includes prerequisites and two years of integrated general education, required related courses and the professional courses. The RSPT component begins in August of each year consists of two years of combined didactic and clinical education.
